Oh my goddess! (or radical monotheism)

There are some people out there that have been disturbed by the fact that I am talking about the goddess and assume by that that I have left the Christian path. Because let’s face it while we as Christian give lip-service to the fact that god may not be a “he” and perhaps even can allow for god to also have an aspect of “she,” we have, as a tribe, an aversion of any mention of the goddess.

So let me put this straight and be done with it!

I BELIEVE IN RADICAL MONOTHEISM

What is radical monotheism you ask? I am glad you asked! I simply believe that there is just one divine source. In the Judeo-Christian language: There is only one god! There are no other gods. There is no simpler way to put it.

This means that I believe that different descriptions of the divine whether anthropomorphised as male or female is describing an aspect of the divine. It does not matter if we call upon the god or the goddess, it does not matter what name we choose for the divine because there is only one source and when we connect with the divine, whatever our limited understanding or image of the divine is, the divine source is one.

But what about evil entities? Well I simply believe the scriptures when it states that god is love, if we call upon the divine source of love, our hearts centred in that love then we are moving towards the source. Yes I do believe that there are destructive forces, even spiritual entities, but again it is not the name we call on but rather where our heart is and what are we truly calling upon. This is why I think even people calling on god or Jesus can be in service of these evil entities even if the get the name “right”. This i believe is the reason Jesus talks about people teaching, prophesying healing in his name but without knowing him, without being connected to the divine source, because in their hearts they are serving Ego rather than love.

This passage from C.S. Lewis last book in the Narnia series articulates the same thought:

“Then I fell at his feet and thought, Surely this is the hour of death, for the Lion (who is worthy of all honour) will know that I have served Tash all my days and not him. Nevertheless, it is better to see the Lion and die than to be Tisroc of the world and live and not to have seen him. But the Glorious One bent down his golden head and touched my forehead with his tongue and said, Son, thou art welcome. But I said, Alas Lord, I am no son of thine but the servant of Tash. He answered, Child, all the service thou hast done to Tash, I account as service done to me. Then by reasons of my great desire for wisdom and understanding, I overcame my fear and questioned the Glorious One and said, Lord, is it then true, as the Ape said, that thou and Tash are one? The Lion growled so that the earth shook (but his wrath was not against me) and said, It is false. Not because he and I are one, but because we are opposites, I take to me the services which thou hast done to him. For I and he are of such different kinds that no service which is vile can be done to me, and none which is not vile can be done to him. Therefore if any man swear by Tash and keep his oath for the oath’s sake, it is by me that he has truly sworn, though he know it not, and it is I who reward him. And if any man do a cruelty in my name, then, though he says the name Aslan, it is Tash whom he serves and by Tash his deed is accepted. Dost thou understand, Child? I said, Lord, though knowest how much I understand. But I said also (for the truth constrained me), Yet I have been seeking Tash all my days. Beloved, said the Glorious One, unless thy desire had been for me thou wouldst not have sought so long and so truly. For all find what they truly seek.”

Now as image bearers of the divine we carry within ourselves the divine source. And as we wake up, as we repent (turn around, think differently) and most accurately remember who we really are, we realise that we are connected, we are part of the whole. We carry this image of the source, this image of love in male and female bodies. I think it is only natural that we imagine the divine in our image as we are created in the image of the divine.

So whether god or goddess, by whatever name we worship: there is only one divine source of love. When we in love reach out for the source the love flows in both directions from the trans-personal to the personal allowing us to love ourselves and then into the inter-personal as we love others around us. When love flows the queendom of the divine is present in our midst, heaven becomes a place on earth and you and I becomes incarnations of god or goddess.
